Born in Akureyri, Iceland, in 1984. In his childhood, drawing and computers were his biggest hobbies. He found out that he could combine those two into a profession called graphic design. When he was 18 he moved to Reykjavik and started studying graphic design at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. During his studies he spent a summer in New York, doing an internship with KarlssonWilker. He also took a semester off in 2005 to study at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee. While studying, Print Magazine selected him for their New Visual Artists, as one of 20 brightest design stars under the age of 30. His focus kind of shifted while he was in school, he realized that his interest in general graphic design was fading, and was getting more and more into illustration and typography.
After his studies he decided to try his luck in London, where he joined his agency, Big Active. During his stay in London he started focusing more and more on his illustrations and custom typography. After a little more than a year over there, he realized that London wasn't really my city, so in 2008 hemoved back to Iceland, to a small fishing village on the west coast, the complete opposite of London. There he relaxed, worked and thought about his next steps. That same year hewas nominated for both, the Icelandic Visual Arts Awards and the DV Cultural Awards. He won neither of them.
After spending the summer in Iceland, he realized that of all the cities I had lived in for the past few years, he missed Berlin the most, so later that year he moved back to Berlin, where he lives and works now. In 2009 Siggi was selected as the highest ranking winner of The Art Directors Club's YG7.
Today Siggi likes a lot of different things, he tries to split his time between working on personal and commercial projects. Siggi is still doing a lot of illustrations, but he has also started writing, giving lectures and workshops, doing some tests with animation, trying to take his typography to the next level and so on. Working is still my biggest hobby.
